How Trash Cleanup Strengthens Flood Control
Did you know trash cleanup is an important way to prevent flooding? Trash in our waterways can block drains, restrict the flow of water and even damage our pumps, reducing the overall effectiveness of our flood control system.
Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) is a longtime partner of IFCD 3. The nonprofit is on a mission to educate and engage the community in the areas of litter abatement, beautification and recycling. One big way KIB does this is through its annual Trash Bash – a community cleanup day where volunteers pick up trash along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Valley Ranch.
IFCD 3 recently had the honor of participating in KIB’s record-breaking Trash Bash, where more than 400 community members came together and donated over 800 hours to picking up trash along Campion Trail at T.W. Richardson Grove Park.
Irving Flood Control District Section III supports its partner, Keep Irving Beautiful, each year with Valley Ranch community cleanup at KIB's annual Trash Bash.
By working together to keep our parks and waterways clean, we’re not just beautifying our community – we’re actively protecting it. Every piece of trash removed during events like KIB’s Annual Trash Bash helps ensure our flood control systems operate at peak performance when it matters most. We’re proud to stand alongside KIB and the hundreds of volunteers who help Valley Ranch and the City of Irving prosper.
Keep Irving Beautiful hosts its two largest community cleanup events annually: Texas Trash Bash in the fall and Texas Trash-Off in the spring. Community members also can participate in virtual cleanups throughout the year.
